Timothy S. Bird
Tim graduated from Virginia Tech at the top of his class, receiving his undergraduate degree with honors. Tim went on to receive his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary and began practicing law in 1995.
In his early career, Tim was a partner in a large Northern Virginia law firm where, in addition to having a private practice, he served as a Commissioner in Chancery, Motions Conciliator, and Neutral Case Evaluator for the 19th Judicial District. In 2003, Tim left the impersonal world of “big firm law” and returned to beautiful Southwest Virginia, where he opened and grew his own law practice in order to better serve the individuals, families, and businesses of our community.
With BSR Legal Group, Tim focuses a large portion of his practice helping families and the companies they own navigate the many challenges of personal and business life. Just a few short years after returning to Southwest Virginia, Tim became one of the leading family law attorneys in the region. Tim has helped people with issues such as divorce, child custody and visitation, child and spousal support, and property distribution. In recognition of his contributions to this area of law, in 2009, Tim was selected by his peers as one of the top attorneys in the Roanoke Valley in the field of Juvenile Law. Also, starting in 2012 and continuing to the present, Tim has been selected as a Virginia “Super Lawyer” and recently was selected as a Distinguished Lawyer by the Expert Network.
Most important to Tim, however, is his desire to help families navigate our complicated legal system to achieve positive results. Individuals, families, and businesses need lawyers who are ready, willing, and able to assist them in overcoming obstacles, solving problems, and seizing economic opportunities. As family owned businesses are a hallmark of American society, Tim greatly enjoys helping individuals and families incorporate businesses, such as Subchapter S Corporations (“S Corps”) and LLC’s, administer those businesses yearly, plan for the continuation of the business into the next family generation, as well as sell or merge those businesses if the financial opportunity presents itself. To do this, Tim has gathered a group of highly skilled, seasoned attorneys to assist families and their businesses with any legal problem they might encounter.
Tim is the past President of the Franklin County Bar Association, is a member of the Ted Dalton Inn of Court, is a lecturer for continuing legal education classes, and is also actively involved in the community. For example, Tim has served on the Board of Directors of such organizations as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Helping Hands and the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce.
